Farming for our future

Our Path to Sustainability at TarraWarra Estate

At TarraWarra Estate, we believe that farming for the future is the only way to craft better wines today.

As proud members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, we track and report our energy, fertiliser, and water usage annually. This process is essential; it gives us an honest benchmark against our peers, helping us celebrate where we’re succeeding and identifying where we need to pick up the pace.

You might notice our vineyard looks a little wilder or messier than you might be used to.
We embrace this look—it is a deliberate choice to boost biodiversity and tread more lightly on this beautiful site.

What we’ve achieved in the last three years.
• Prioritising Soil Health: We’ve implemented a comprehensive program using cover crops to build our soil. These plants help us increase organic matter and carbon, improve soil structure, and keep the ground cooler. By doing so, we are creating the perfect environment for beneficial fungi to thrive, which in turn leads to stronger, healthier vines.

• Nourishing from the Ground Up: We are transitioning toward organic fertilisers that do more than just feed our vines; they actively support the vibrant life living beneath the surface.

• Precision Technology: By using a "recycling" spray unit, we have been able to reduce our diesel consumption by 50% and our chemical usage by 30%.

• Mindful Pruning: We have adopted the “Sap Flow” pruning method. By working in harmony with the vine’s natural rhythms, we are seeing improved plant health and increased vine longevity.

We are proud of the progress we’ve made, but we know our work is never truly finished.
We look forward to continuing this important journey, and in choosing our wines you can be assured of our commitment.
