The TarraWarra Estate vineyards are managed by Chris Beard and the team. Chris commenced with TarraWarra Estate in September 2023 when we took over the care of Swallowfield Vineyard in Gembrook. The knowledge of every site on both properties is a constant in informing the decisions of the future.

Nestled in the heart of the Yarra Valley, Tarrawarra Vineyards is a destination where world-class wines, art, and stunning landscapes come together in perfect harmony.

Our Vineyards

TarraWarra Estate

The vineyard at TarraWarra Estate is comprised of 23.9 hectares divided into 22 separate blocks, which are spread across the property. While TarraWarra Estate is best known for exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, more recent additions have attracted much attention. These include Shiraz, Barbera and Nebbiolo. The Estate marries aspect and the grey loam over clay soils to produce wines that are reflective of place.

Swallowfield Vineyard

Swallowfield Vineyard is a confluence of factors. Impoverished granitic soils de-vigour the vines and naturally reduce yields, leading to wines of length and understated power. A noticeably cooler and wetter climate, compared to TarraWarra, leads to an increased hang time of fruit on the vine, resulting in depth and fine mature tannins. This is extreme viticulture and as a result, can be an onerous and cantankerouse site to farm.

There is no other vineyard in the Yarra Valley with this combination of climate and granitic soil. A very unique place and old vines resulting in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that can be from nowhere else.
