Season Notes
A vintage was low yielding due to a cool spring. Timely rainfall throughout the growing season kept vines healthy, resulting in excellent flavour development prior to harvest.
Alc/vol
13.7%
Harvest Date
Hand harvested on 8th March 2022
Winemaking
The fruit was hand harvested and cooled overnight before whole bunch pressing the following morning. The juice was settled briefly before filling off to oak for fermentation. Upon the ferment being completed, the wines were sulphured and left on lees for maturation. A small portion went through malo-lactic fermentation prior to be sulphured to give further complexity and depth to the wine. The wine was blended in October, before bottling in December 2022.
Oak
Fermentation and maturation in 100% French oak Puncheons, Demi Muid and Barriques for 10 months. 10% new oak.
Cellaring
Will drink well now and will continue to develop further complexity over the next 5–10 years.
Colour
Pale straw colour, indicative of its freshness and youth.
Nose
Initial aromatics of lime and fig sit well amongst the generous flavors of white peach and melon.
Palate
Refreshing flavours centred around citrus fruits, slight saline notes and background white flowers. Some subtle notes of just ripe white nectarine help give grip and texture to the palate. A chalky drive through the palate aids in length, drive and freshness.
Food match
The wine opens with a vibrant citrus drive, led by the native lift of lemon myrtle and bergamot drive on the palate. This is complemented by savoury roasted nuts, with subtle inflections of oak spice and some sea spray characters. There’s a refreshing energy and verve on the palate which gives precision and persistence.
