2017 Reserve Chardonnay

Racked directly to barrel after whole-bunch pressing, this wine is the purest expression of TarraWarra Chardonnay. Made without yeast or acid addition, the fruit batches from each block are kept entirely separate in barrel over the 10 months in oak. It is crossflow filtered without fining before bottling at the Estate. Aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers reflect the cooler year, the palate balanced between finesse, length and creamy texture. The acid line drives through with a persistent and long finish. A wine to drink and enjoy now or cellar for 10 or more years.

Site Selection: The heritage blocks of B and D have a north-west aspect and represent a perfect site for Chardonnay. The two blocks have deep soils and a cool micro-climate.

Vintage Notes: 2017 was a later and cooler year in the Yarra Valley.  The cold temperatures that persisted through Spring slowed fruit development, while January and February brought perfect ripening conditions, with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s, and cool nights aiding retention of acid and fine flavour development.

HUON HOOKE The Real Review, 6 Sep 2019
Light straw colour. The bouquet is restrained, rather tight and almost a little closed, showing straw and subtle toasted hazelnut nuances. It really blossomed in the glass. The wine is lemony, citrusy, hazelnutty, honeyed, taut and refined on palate. It's very light on its feet; a super-refined, utterly gorgeous chardonnay of real complexity and finesse. (From original 1983 planted vines, B and D Blocks.) 98/100

HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION 2020 Jane Faulkner
This is up there as one of its finest Reserves to date. It manages to be flavoursome, yet restrained and superfine thanks in no small part to the beautiful line of natural acidity. It unfurls with white stone fruit, lemon high notes and the right amount of leesy complexity. 96 Points

LESTER JESBERG Winewise, 20 Oct 2019
It comes from the same region as the Oakridge 864, but the stylistic difference is striking. The difference is due more to winemaker input than sub-regional influence. This is an “Australian Meursault”. The funky nutty-nougat nose is complex and powerful, and the palate is long, rich and delightfully creamy.
