Our 4th release of the MDB Pinot Noir, the wine displayed great depth, elegance and balance from the outset.  Only made in truly exceptional years where a few barrels are selected for bottling under the MDB label. Our winemaking aims to preserve the unique qualities of site and season. We know this wine has excellent potential for long term cellaring. Drink now and over 10 or more years.

Site Selection: H-Block is the backbone of the Reserve Pinot Noir blend and one of our icon sites. It consistently produces our highest quality Pinot Noir, the soil is naturally low yielding giving optimum vine balance.  This wine is made from the half of the block with a 70cm cordon height.

Vintage Notes: 2017 was one of the most ideal vintages, particularly for reds.  Warm days with cool nights persisted from veraison to harvest and the vines thrived in these conditions.  Although only a small block, we picked and made the four sections separately.  Although all parcels were excellent, the low tier stood out for its purity, complexity and refinement.

Reviews:

HUON HOOKE Gourmet Traveller Wine, Dec/Jan 2020 Issue
A beautiful and rare wine, only produced in four vintages. Strong on smoky toasty barrel age and complex pinot aromas, this is full bodied and rich as velvet, deep and textural. Harmonious masses of fruit and fine-grained tanins. 97/100

HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION 2020 Jane Faulkner
MDB is made only in exceptional vintages. Complexity and elegance are its hallmarks, supported by lightly spiced red and dark cherries, fine, sweet tannins and terrific length. Above all, delicious and detailed. 96 Points

LESTER JESBERG Winewise Pinot Noir Tasting, 9 Oct 2019
This is a powerful dark berry/cherry pinot noir which shows some stem-derived complexity. The palate is delightfully long, supple and silky, and the oak is seamlessly integrated.
