2015 Roussanne Marsanne Viognier

With a strong heritage in the Yarra Valley, these three Rhone Valley white varieties have performed incredibly well across just a small area on the estate.

The combination of these three varieties builds a wine with lifted honeysuckle perfume, fine acidity, great texture and length. The overall effect is a savoury wine that is ideal with a range of food types.

Site selection: North facing vineyard, good air flow and exposure to sunlight. Steep slopes and a clay loam soil provide excellent site drainage.

Vintage notes: 2015 vintage was an excellent vintage, mild conditions and cool nights persisted from veraison to harvest. Fruit was hand-picked in excellent condition, with distinct, bright varietal characters.

"The tried and tested typical trio of tricky-to-pronounce grapes tickles the fancy at last" reads the headline...and the review, almost. It'll tickle lovers of serious whites. 8.5/10

REGAN DREW Vino Notebook, 18 Jan 2017
Gold in the glass, with bright green highlughts. Initial sulphides are blown away before earthy, spicy light tobacco aromas with roast chicken skin like meatiness, off set by quartz rocks and stone fruit.  Medium bodied yet retains delicious acid lines to keep it reined in tight. Think juicy stone fruit and bittersweet grapefruit flavours that persist and impel rather than fall away greasy and flabby. Even being sampled at just under room temperature this stills feels graceful with tremendous length of flavour. 2nd and 3rd glass worthy.

JOHN FORDHAM The Sunday Telegraph, 15 Jan 2017
Winemaker Clare Halloran crafted this Rhone blend with impeccable balance, allowing each variety to play defining roles. The masterstroke to graft them onto existing Yarra Valley vines came only seven vintages ago and this latest release awesomely reveals enticing amalgams of flavours.

STEVE LESZCZYNSKI Q Wine, 16 Nov 2016
The back label says the fruit comes from just seven rows of vines.

The sum of the parts has changed for this 2015 too. Normally Marsanne is the leader of the pack but this time Roussanne takes charge.

Smells of ginger jubes, honeysuckle, lemon pith, lemon butter and apricot skin. There's a creaminess in the mouth and some stonefruit characters glide through with ease. Textural feels fattening the mid palate too. Linear in part with subdued acidity, the fruit seems to hit and stick - I'm a big fan. That shimmer of ginger spice calmly reappears on exit leading to a long finish.

A wine which is hard to put down admittedly, I'd be happy sipping away at this all night.

Drink now to five years. 93/100 - Very good
