2015 Estate Chardonnay

The wine is a blend of seven blocks located across the TarraWarra property. Harvested between 11.8 and 12.4 baume, the wine was naturally fermented, and had no acid addition.

The wine has grapefruit and lemon zest aromas with underlying notes of cashew nuts. The tight palate reflects the season, with texture derived from 10 months on lees and a lovely drive with persistence of flavour. With oak and tank maturation, the wine shows an elegant complexity with appealing freshness.

Site selection: Fruit for the Estate wine was sourced from 13-30 year-old vines across various blocks. The TarraWarra Estate vineyard has a northerly aspect across high sloping hill-sides, which provides good drainage and air circulation. The grapes are all hand harvested at approximately seven tonnes per hectare.

Vintage notes: 2015 was a beautiful vintage in the Yarra Valley. From veraison to harvest the weather was warm, without extreme heat, and the night time temperatures were coller than average. This combination aids ripening while retaining acid in the fruit. Careful vineyard management gives the fruit the qualities that are a hallmark of TarraWarra Estate Chardonnay.

WINE REPUBLIC, 7 June 2017
Where rolling green hills meet pale blue skies, and still clear waters reflect gently swaying leaves, TarraWarra Estate can be found. A true haven from the chaos of city life, the wines made here reflect the idyllic surroundings and committed craftsmanship that can be seen in every stone and vine of TarraWarra.

Their Estate Chardonnay is an elegant and harmonious wine. Rich creamy flavours come from the time spent in oak barrels, but there is still a little grapefruit and lemon zest to keep things from getting too heavy.

It's incredible to find a wine so affordable that is made with such consideration and love. Every sip will take you back to those verdurous hills under the tranquil sky.

HUON HOOKE Wine of the Week, 24 May 2017
Excellent value for money: a grown-up chardonnay at an affordable price. Very light colour, and a complex, nutty, honey and malt bouquet which has echoes of the savoury, faintly smoky style of many of today’s top-level chardies. It’s refined, delicate, delicious. Score: 92 ★★★★ / Ranked #10 of 47 2015 Chardonnay from Yarra Valley

JOHN FORDHAM The Sunday Telegraph, 23 April 2017
From a high-profile chardonnay launch almost three decades ago, this Yarra Valley producer has built a remarkably loyal following. No surprise considering the quality and consistency of performance. Fruit purity and judicious involvement of oak deliver a copybook Clare Halloran crafted result.

WINSOR DOBBIN Wine of the Week, 17 Apr 2017
TarraWarra winemaker Clare Halloran has no less than four cool-climate chardonnays in the current range. This is the entry level estate wine, with a few fewer bells and whistles than its more expensive siblings, but it stands alone as a delightfully elegant Yarra Valley chardy; more artist than artisan, estate-grown and hand-picked, it has clean lines with citrus zest notes, hints of roasted cashews, along with a crisp, clean finish. Tight and fresh, this is very food friendly, too. Think roast pork with crackling, chicken dishes or perhaps pan-fried John Dory. Great value from an excellent vintage.

STEVE LESZCZYNSKI Q Wine, 13 Mar 2017
Solid Chardonnay game played here. A popular wine on premise that drinks well and punches above its price tag.  A neat drink showcasing burnt fig, white-fleshed stone fruit, roasted nuts and lemony zeal. Grapefruit rind aromas step up with a little more time in the glass. A cordon of grapefruit acidity ties it down - in a good way. Long to finish, have with pork or roast chicken for the win.
