2013 Reserve Pinot Noir

The fruit batches are kept separate in barrel and blended to the style intended to express the truest form of the varietal character and the site.

A vibrant perfumed aroma of raspberries, rose petals, plum and restrained cedar oak, the wine shows nuances of complexity on the nose.

The palate is finely layered opening with pure fruit, a fine texture, grainy tannins and a generous palate. It has wonderful persistence of flavour and excellent potential for long term cellaring.

Drink now and over 10 or more years.

Vine Age & Features: Produced from heritage, low yielding vines at 29 years of age, planted on north facing slopes.

Site Selection: H-Block is the backbone of the Reserve Pinot Noir blend. At 29 years of age, this is one of our icon sites. It consistently produces our highest quality Pinot Noir, the soil is naturally low yielding giving optimum vine balance. I block was planted in 1989, originally as a clone trial block. The years have shown the D5V12 to be most suited to the site, the balance being grafted over in 2001. This clone often performs well in warmer years.

Vintage Notes: 2013 was a warmer vintage, with very low yields. Although the average maximum temperatures were higher, there were very extremely hot days, allowing the fruit to be harvested in excellent condition with good balance and flavour.

Lester Jesberg, Wine Wise Bulletin 27 August 2015
The fresh red berry aromas and flavours are enhanced by a touch of whole bunch complexity. The oak is very well handled, and the palate is silky, finishing with lingering fine tannins.

JAMES HALLIDAY, Halliday Wine Companion 2015
Bright, clear crimson-purple; an elegant, sophisticated pinot noir embracing the full spectrum of Yarra Valley pinot aromas and flavours on its highly fragrant bouquet and palate; the juicy red and black cherry fruits are framed by fine, but persistent, savoury tannins on the lingering finish. 95 Points

ROB GEDDES MW Australian Wine Vintages 33rd Edition 2016
Wonderful vibrant colour leads to complex red fruit aromas, strawberry to red cherry and raspberry ripe fruit with a dark spice savoury edge. In the mouth a rich full bodied style, youthful, fresh and age worthy with silky tannins taunt fruits with fine acidity.  The strawberry fruit has great middle palate intensity and freshness while the tannins back the fruit roundly filling the middle palate with plumpness toned by acidity and lingering red fruits with a subtle savoury element. Top 100 Award (95 points)
