2013 Reserve Chardonnay

Racked directly to barrel after whole-bunch pressing, this wine is the purest expression of TarraWarra Chardonnay.  Made without yeast or acid addition, the fruit batches from each block are kept entirely separate in barrel over the 10 months in oak.  It is crossflow filtered without fining before bottling at the Estate.

A wine of very fine complexity it displays fig and white peach aromas. The palate weight  and texture reflect the warmer year, with slightly fuller notes coming through.  It has the length that is the hallmark of our Chardonnay.

A wine to drink and enjoy now or cellar for 10 or more years.

Vine age & features: The fruit is all selected from our original vineyard planted in 1983.

Site Selection: The heritage blocks of B and C have a north-west aspect and represent a perfect site for Chardonnay. The two blocks have deep soils and a cool micro-climate.

Vintage Notes: 2013 was a warmer year in the Yarra Valley. Yields were much lower than normal, with these older vines yielding 5.5 tonnes per hectare.    The fruit is protected through ripening by maintaining a healthy canopy around the fruiting zone.

JAMES HALLIDAY, Halliday Wine Companion 2016
From the '83 planting; whole bunch pressed to French oak (25% new) for wild yeast fermentation, 10 months maturation. The bouquet has some toasty complexity, but the very long palate is an exercise in purity and focus, the flavours of white peach and a touch of cream. 95 points.

ROB GEDDES MW Australian Wine Vintages 33rd Edition 2016
High quality in all the right places with stone fruit and fine oak showing white butter white chocolate oak and spice aromas in the background. In the mouth very finely constructed fresh fruit, age worthy balance with rich white nectarine fruit and oak seamlessly woven with the oak playing a bass line in the background around to the fruits treble. 5 Gold Stars Award

STEVE LESZCZYNSKI QWine, May 2015
Plate up a roast chook in readiness. Wild yeast fermented and 100% whole bunch pressed, it is clear to see why this is the flagship Chardonnay at Tarrawarra. There's more oak here than the Estate Chardonnay and the fruit offers just that bit more complexity. Fleshy white peach heading the act moving to a long and generous finish. Complexity with well weighted fruit ensures this gets all the ticks. Really smart wine this with at least ten years aging potential in front of it. Excellent.

JANE FAULKNER @winematters, April 2015
Excellent '13 @_TarraWarra_ reserve chardonnay recently released - savoury, complex, depth of flavour, superb fruit yet quite restrained.
