2011 Estate Pinot Noir

Made with the same approach as the Reserve Pinot Noir, this wine is produced from a different selection of fruit parcels and barrel combinations.

The wine reflects the coolness of the year, an elegant, perfumed style with delicate fruit flavours showing through on the nose. The palate is layered and textured, with a fine tannin structure. It will drink well for six to eight years.

Vine age & features: The fruit was picked from various blocks with vines aged between 11 and 21 years old, grown on high north facing slopes to maximise sunshine hours. Northerly winds from Long Gully provide good air flow and favourable micro-climates across the Estate.

Vintage notes: The 2011 vintage started with a wet spring, followed by a summer that was cooler and wetter than average. The cool conditions persisted through ripening. Patience and nerves were tested with pciking a month later than 2010.

RAY JORDAN The West Australian, 18 April 2013
A delicate and light-bodied pinot noir with understated varietal characters. A touch of spice and sour cherry on the nose carries through to the light palate. Fine silky tannins and a little dab of oak add some structure and complexity. A lightly sappy astringency on the finish keeps it tidy. A wine for the next couple of years with lightly flavoured food. 89/100

RICK ALLEN North Shore Times, 5 April 2013
The 2011 was a pretty tricky vintage in the Yarra Valley - but you wouldn't know it from this drop. The flavours, in fact, are quite bold and brassy for pinot, with dark cherry and plums enhanced by a lick of spice and some earthy/gamey complexity. All in all it's easy drinking - better than a quaffer and offering big value at the price of $25.

GREG DUNCAN-POWELL news.com.au, 12 March 2013
In the Tarrawarra hierarchy this wine sits under the Reserve Pinot and benefits from the same sort of treatment. Fragrant, fine and balanced, there are none of the stewy flavours pinot gets when it's pushed too hard. This is the sort of wine that gets you thinking in the kitchen. Value: Good, Food: Coq au vin with mushrooms, Rating: 4.5/5.
