2012 Estate Pinot Noir

Made with the same approach as the Reserve wine, this wine is produced from a different selection of fruit parcels and barrel combinations.

The wine displays lifted raspberry aromas, with a hint of earthiness and subtle oak.  The flavours combine bright fruit with fine tannins, the richness reflecting the warmer year.

It will drink well for six to eight years.

Site selection: The fruit was picked from various blocks with vines aged between 11 and 21 years old, grown on high north facing slopes to maximize sunshine hours. Northerly winds from Long Gully provide good air flow and favourable micro-climates across the Estate.

Vintage notes: 2012 vintage was one of the best we’ve experienced. Ideal conditions persisted from veraison to harvest. Fruit was hand-picked in excellent condition, with high colour intensity and flavour expression.

Reveiws:

RAY JORDAN West Australian, 22 May 2014
Vibrant and lively young pinot noir displaying beautiful perfumed cherry and violet aromas with a little seductive African violet. The palate is a perfect expression of the variety, with fine firmish tannins and a little dab of oak. Controlled and refined through to a sustained finish. 90/100

RALPH KYTE-POWELL The Age Epicure, 11 March 2014
Cherry, almond, forest and spice aromas run on through the supple, gluggable palate.  It’s light but persistent, soft and clean.

GARY WALSH The Wine Front, 4 February 2014
Well, this is pretty spunky value then. Smells good. Tastes good. Light to medium bodied, red fruits, bright acidity and a clear sense of ‘minerality’  - you know, that kind of graphite feel that you get mocked for mentioning, by some. Fine tannin. Even flow. Length is pretty good. Seems a wine that has clarity and purpose, which is both admirable and allowable for a wine at this modest price point. 92 or 93 even?

JAMES HALLIDAY The Weekend Australian, 1 February 2014
100% MV6 clone, and minimalist handling, with no cold soak, no post-ferment maceration. Bright and clear crimson-purple; the fragrant red berry bouquet flows into a seamless palate, mediumbodied in pinot terms, with a seductive array of cherry and plum fruits. Fine tannins provide just the right amount of support on the long palate.
