2009
A very challenging season for our vines and our vineyard team! The season was initially cool through Spring and early Summer. An extreme and prolonged heat wave in February caused much vine collapse throughout Victoria, however diligent and thoughtful management in our vineyard kept our vineyards healthy and functioning well. The fruit was harvested mostly in March, this reflecting the cool start to our ripening season.
2008
The season shaped up to be quite cool for most of the critical periods in berry development. We experienced a brief hot spell in Mid-February, but this had little impact on the vines, and most of the vineyards on the Estate were harvested by the end of the month, our earliest season to date. The fruit was in perfect condition at harvest, the wines reflect the cool ripening season.
2007
A severe late Spring frost devastated most of our vineyard, particularly our oldest blocks. The remainder of the season was relatively warm and dry. We though it was the most challenging vintage ever until 2009 came along.
2006
We experienced a warm dry summer. The fruit remained vibrant and healthy through the season and was harvested slightly early, due to the advanced berry development and ripening, but in beautiful condition. We believe this vintage produced some of our best fruit to date.
2005
A cool season with ideal ripening conditions leading up to harvest. A wet spring resulted in a healthy full canopy, and harvest was two weeks later than usual due to the coolness of the season. The flavour development was excellent, and the fruit yields right on target. The fruit was in perfect condition at harvest.
2004
Without excessive heat, and with little rain during the final weeks of ripening and harvest, this was a beautiful year. The long winter and cool summer put harvest back two weeks resulting in a moderate yield of overall good quality.
2003
Temperatures were slightly warmer than average and rainfall was well below average. While this resulted in smaller berries and bunches, the quality of fruit was excellent, with harvest earlier than normal in the dry conditions.
2002
Summer was very cool after a dry winter. Flowering, ripening and harvest were all delayed in this unusual weather period. Very high acid levels were recorded. Despite being a climatically challenging vintage the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir quality was outstanding.
2001
A warm year with generally good conditions, despite spring being wet and humid with resultant disease pressure continuing through a hot and humid summer. Rain held off at the crucial time and harvest was completed before a wet end to March.
2000
The very hot summer caused early leaf deterioration and some discolouration of Chardonnay due to sun and heat exposure. However reasonable soil moisture assisted the vines through the heat and vintage was overall of a high standard.
1999
The year alternated extreme heat with high rainfall periods in February and March. Consequently there was some splitting and shrivel and the vintage was adversely affected.
1998
After spring frosts caused widespread shoot death and loss of 70% of Chardonnay, the rest of the season was ideal although dry. Harvest was later than normal but flavours were excellent.
