2010 Reserve Pinot Noir

Winemaker notes: This wine is a blend of the best fruit parcels grown on the heritage blocks of TarraWarra Estate. The fruit batches are kept separate in barrels and blended to the style intended to express the truest foorm of the varietal character and the site. With aromas of raspberries, rose petals, plum and restrained cedar oak, the wine shows nuances of complexity on the nose. The palate is finely layered with texture, grainy tannins and a core of plum fruit. It has persistence of flavour and potential for long term cellaring. Drink now and over 10 or more years.

Vine age & features: Produced from heritage, low yielding vines at 25 and 21 years of age, planted on north facing slopes.

Site selection: H-Block is the backbone of the Reserve Pinot Noir blend. At 25 years of age, this is one of our icon sites. I-Block was primarily planted as a display vineyard yet it produces the best fruit of D5-V12 clone on the Estate.

Vintage notes: The sites of each block are ideally suited to their clones and this vintage was ideally suited to producing wines of great expression. The cool nights and warm days of summer followed good rainfall in the spring time, allowing the vines to work with ease and the fruit to reach ideal levels of flavour and colour set. A vintage like this was a true blessing after the challenges of 2009.

Reviews:

Highly complex with abundant red fruit and nicely handled oak on the nose. The palate is supple with a plump middle and silky tannins to finish. It appealed to Bourne who wrote, “Fresh with strawberry, cranberry, raspberry pastilles and a funky edge. An elegant palate: supple and seductive with a touch of truffle complexity. Fine and long”. More.  Gourmet Traveller Wine, Feb/March Issue

It's not deep in colour, but this classy pinot has depth of character… it opens plummy, gamey and sensuously rich. Earth, spice and briar touches add interest, as does skilful oak treatment. The velvety palate is rich and sustained, with the tannic backbone to support bottle age.  Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure - 28 August 2012

Smoky, toasty oak leads dark cherry and anise spice fruit… A lick of green herbs… then a continual, even texture through the mouth adds seduction. Intense and coiled with superb poise and grace.  Mike Bennie, WBM Wine 100 - July 2012

A supple, delicious pinot noir which is fine, fleshy and fragrant. It’s a delightful drink now, but will still have plenty to offer in 3-5 years. Highly Recommended.  Lester Jesberg, Winewise - June 2012
