2010 J-Block Shiraz

Vine age & features: Planted in 2007, the low yielding, close planted vines produce long elongated bunches with minimal vigour. Vertical shoot positioned canopy, cane pruned.

Site selection: The shallow soils, free drainage and high elevation of J-Block made this the perfect site for Shiraz vines. The soils include lean granite, loam and clay. North-west facing.

Vintage notes: The sites of each block are ideally suited to their clones and this vintage was ideally suited to producing wines of great varietal expression. The cool nights and warm days of summer followed good rainfall in the spring time, allowing the vines to work with ease and the fruit to reach ideal levels of flavour and colour set.

Reviews:

HUON HOOKE Gourmet Traveller Wine, October/November 2012
Winemaker Clare Halloran's single block reds are outstanding. A superbly elegant Yarra shiraz which smells of smoky spices and pepper, dark fruits and a twist of aniseed. Bright, clean and polished, with a long finish and a balance of sweet fruit and savoury elements. Rating 93.

JAMES HALLIDAY Australian Wine Companion 2013
Mid crimson; a spice-laden red and black-fruited bouquet with an appealing mineral core; the palate is medium-bodied, fine and pure-fruited, with silky tannins drawing out the even conclusion for a Pinot-like and elegant experience. Rating 94.

PETER BOURNE (melbourne) magazine & (sydney) magazine, 28 July 2012
This shows evocative aromas of raspberry and red cherry with a background of dusky spices.  Mid-weight and high-toned, it is a delicious drink now and for five-plus years.
