2006 Reserve Chardonnay

Winemaker notes: The aroma is of white peach, citrus notes and cashew with lovely oak overtones. The palate is fine yet complex with layers of stone fruit, fig and nutty flavours and creamy texture from the extended lees contact. All of this complexity is beautifully in balance with the natural acidity which will aide further cellaring over the next four to five years.

Vine age & features: 23 year-old VSP trellis vines from TarraWarra Estate’s B & C heritage blocks were planted in 1983. South Park is the only south facing vineyard on the estate which was planted in 2003 and were thus only 3 years of age in 2006.

Vintage notes: It was a warm summer with very dry conditions. The grapes ripened quickly and the vineyard team concentrated on maintaining a healthy vine canopy to protect the grapes from sunburn. The grapes were picked at a time that the acidity was in nice balance with the sugar, before the berries became too ripe in the hot temperatures.

Reviews:

Superb. Super chardonnay. Tastes of oatmeal and wheatgerm, grapefruit and toast. Races through the mouth, leaves and impression, then presses out through the finish. Long aftertaste. Wonderful 'thrust' as it hits the back palate.

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front - November 2009

Tight and elegant in composition. Refined and well structured. A touch of citrus followed by stonefruits, grilled nuts, cashew oak and a lessy character. Lovely and creamy smoothness in mouthfeel along with a glorious length. The oak and the fruit are in sync and there is a lovely complementing acidity that brings it all together very well indeed. A well balanced premium quality Chardonnay with good cellaring potential. Troy it with prawn risotto.
